Over ten years online! We are ALL volunteers.

Read on if you have an interest in
complementary or alternative medicine (CAM), Integrative/Natural therapies for cancer.
If you have questions on natural therapies, also called complementary/alternative/integrative, we hope to provide some answers. We call this information "possibilities". People have used them before and some always benefit. Our theory is that if it worked before for someone, it can work again - maybe for you!

Try many things especially combining healthy eating - lots of fruits and vegetables (organic if possible), with physical movement/exercise, add a relaxation program for mind-body-spirit. Recent studies show this really helps people with cancer. And it can also reduce your risk of heart disease and diabetes or high blood pressure. If you add a detoxification regiment and perhaps some dietary supplements or herbs, you can expect your system to be at its best. Then add the CANCER TREATMENT of YOUR CHOICE.
The Annie Appleseed Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, provides information, education, advocacy, and
awareness for people with cancer and their family and friends who are interested in complementary or alternative medicine (CAM) and natural therapies from a patient's perspective. We are an all volunteer organization.
Ann Fonfa, founder of The Annie Appleseed Project and a breast cancer survivor, has testified in Congress and to the Food & Drug Administration about a patient's need for CAM information. "Only by standing up for our right to know will we get the studies we need to make educated and informed choices."
Our comprehensive website encompasses both COMPLEMENTARY therapies - the use of natural therapies WITH conventional medicine, and ALTERNATIVE therapies - those used INSTEAD of or AFTER conventional therapy. Both are usually referred to as CAM. Lately the idea has grown to call the combination INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE. This concept will benefit patients.
Patients need to act NOW, thus many ideas are explored within this site. There are quite a few links ?it is like an encyclopedia of options. Making healthy decisions for your self, a family member, or a friend is more easily done with good information. There are lots of scientific studies on these pages, as well as what we call "possibilities."
Please see the "Who We Are" section for our policies.
In the "Studies" section, you will find many published studies and articles on nutrition, dietary supplements, and much more. We update our site regularly by creating new pages as studies appear in journals and other formats.
Latest studies continue to show that a majority of cancer patients use some form of CAM. (Eisenberg et al, 2000;Kumar, 2002;Metz, 2002;Kelly et al, 2002;Richardson et al, 2000;Bernstein & Grasso, 2001;Ashikaga et al, 2002;Wolsko et al, 2004;Risberg et al, 2004;Buettner C et al, 2006;Mansky PJ et al, 2006;McEachrane-Gross FP et al, 2006;Swarup AB et al, 2006;Robotin MC et al, 2006;Humpel N et al, 2006, etc.).
Studies have been done in the US, UK, Australia, Turkey, Brazil, Norway, Switzerland, and The Netherlands - in other words CAM is in use everywhere. And more studies are being done demonstrating the value of good nutrition combined with physical exercise/movement and stress reduction (yoga, meditation, etc.).
Few studies are at the "gold standard" level of randomized clinical trials. We need to keep asking that such trials be started so we will KNOW what works.
